Animal Reiki

Animal Reiki

Sending Reiki to a groundhog recently, I clearly heard him say, “I cannot go back out there…”   Not only I am I a Reiki Master, but I am also a licensed (federal and state) Wildlife Rehabber.   Another Rehabber in another area contacted me and the topic of Reiki came up, I offered to send Reiki to her client.  Not only did I get information about the injuries (later confirmed by a veterinarian) of the critter, I sent information to him as well about why he was in care and help him to understand the scenario.  Also with this animal it also turned out the reason he did not want to go back to the wild is that at some point this animal had been kept as a pet and THEN—when they were tired of it—‘released him to the wild’ so he was never WILD to begin with.  Very sad.   As far as working with Animals and Reiki, this is not an unusual situation for me.   I have had many instances while working with animals over the years, where they have felt comfortable enough to communicate small bits of information that has help me be to be able to help them in their care.  This doesn’t happen to every Reiki practitioner either we are all different in our way of getting information while practicing.

Practicing Animal Reiki whether in person (near the animal), hands on the animal (when they are comfortable with it) or distance work, can be a great addition to your healing therapy.  Not only for you, but for the animals in your care.  Whether you have pets, work with animals professionally (wild or domestic), or just like to visit animals at zoo’s or in nature, Reiki can help you better serve the creatures of Earth. Reiki treatments DO NOT substitute for medical, veterinarian care, but certainly CAN help augment the care they are already receiving.  To find out more about Animal Reiki or to schedule a private or group class, please contact me today.  Please note I do not teach Reiki by distance. I only do in person attunements.  kelliarmes@gmail.com

Tree Essence

Tree Essence

Like Flower essences that are made from plants, Tree Essence are made from Trees.  Not something commonly found at your local health food store, but as Trees stand tall an strong, these are something that can help promote your ethereal health or strengthen your spirit.  This is great as an adjunct therapy to conventional or alternative health care that you may be seeking.*

Flower and Tree Essence, should be done appropriately, and not just picking a flower shoving putting in water.  There is a particular ceremony or intent that goes with it (in my opinion)  and while many people do it differently, the important thing to remember is that respect and intention are important.  I never harvest anything from a tree or plant without seeking permission from it.

My Tree Essences (like all of medicine) are made with heart and intention and ceremonially prepared for the highest good of those who will receive them.

My current list is …(Tree only, I do have other flower essence if you are interested just message me for that list)

Specify whether you want a stock bottle or a dose bottle (if you don’t know which email me to help determine your needs).

½ ounce amber glass bottle is $7.00 (plus shipping if you are not local).

Here is a short description. Please note that is one calls to you (even if you do not have an issue listed, this one is for you, trust your gut instincts)

Wild Cherry: Great for bringing for the…..(an issue or talent)….at appropriate time. I.e. creativity, information, bringing forth certain emotions and or showing who you are at the appropriate time.  (key here is that is brings things at the right time).

Tulip Poplar: Great for self esteem issues. Or can bring up hidden self esteem issues you didn’t know and help work through them.

Pine: Great for feeling of guilt or self-blame. Needing forgiveness of self or acceptance.

Maple:  Bringing into the root, (helps with root chakra) or grounding, knowing when to draw in and conserve. Connecting with Earth (like the turtle pulling into shell).

Sycamore: Great for feeling out of place, or like the outside of you doesn’t match the inside. When you are ‘not sure who you are…’ or ‘your world has been turned upside down by unexpected news that makes you question who you are.

Serviceberry: Great for cognitive issues or helping to think more clearly on an issue.

Dogwood:  Great for pain in body or those that may lack grace or coordination. Also great for physical and etheric harmony.

Magnolia:  Helps to process negative emotions so they don't get stuck in the body. Great for birthing (birth-workers great to add to your apothecary)  this means either physical or emotional.  Gentle and caring and works with you on issues you need to work out.

Maw-Maw Kelli's Original Lemon Balm Mead

Supplies:

Fermenting Jar (local brew store or a large jar with stopper and fermentation air-lock)  (size will depend on how much you make)

You can make small batches in a 1/2 gallon mason jar with a recap lid, stopper and fermentation             lock)  this is flexible! use what you have don't go buy a bunch of stuff unless you really think you         wanna do more.

Lemon Balm (Melissa Off.)  (fresh plant, you will need large amounts depending on how much you make)
Stock Pot
Apple Pie Spice or other sweet spices like cinnamon.
Local or at least Organic Wildflower Honey
Redstar (red package) wine yeast.

Book:

I made this recipes based on this book:  Sacred Herbal and Healing Beers.  By Stephen Buhner. Please support his work!  It is awesome and there are tons of other things in there besides just recipes!!

Directions:

Start with a large amount of Lemon Balm (Mellisa Off.) in a large stock pot.  Cover with filtered water and let decoct (lid off) on a low temperature until it is reduced by half.  Add some Apple pie spice and a little Cinnamon or maybe Ginger??  have fun with it!

Pour off  liquid and recycle plant material (compost do not throw away!!!)
Use 3 parts of the liquid to 1 part honey.
Add your honey in (after you strained the mixture and it cools a little) and let the honey mix up well with mixture (stir, stir stir, do not heat the honey too much)
After you have mixed the honey, let cool to about 70 degrees and add yeast. (you don't have to use what I did, you can use whatever yeast you want).

Add this mixture to your fermenting vessel. make sure there is not too much head room.
After about 30 days you can decant it (I am sure there is another word for it in the mead world) but I did not decant mine. I finished mine off int he same vessel!!  (Yes I know that is not the way...blah blah blah ...who cares)   I did not taste it until month 8.  And then I decanted it and put it in bottles.   You can do it different if you want that is fine!!  But this was very successful for me and I am still enjoying it!  :D

Enjoy!!!  Here was the finished product!  Taste Yummy!

Weedy Ferment (Cultured, Live Food)

Weedy Ferment

Supplies:

WEEDS!!!
Ok let me be specific.  Please use only harvest weeds that you know are FOOD!!  And if you are not a forager, maybe now is the time you get with someone who can help you ID those pesky, yummy, nutritious, medicinal weeds!  BUT don’t use anything unless you really know what it is.  I know that’s no fun right, but you may thank me for that one later!   I could do a whole blog on just weeds, but I will spare you my rambling…..

For this ferment we are using a 32 ounce Mason Jar. If you use anything else you will need to adjust the salt for that vessel.

Dandelion leaf and flower tops
Henbit
Chickweed
Just a few leaves of Yellow Dock (Rumex)
Cleavers
Salt (between about 3 heaping teaspoons or 1-2 small tablespoons—remember I don’t measure, I taste)
Peppercorns (a few)
Pepper (I wanted to taste the weeds as is, but if you want to add a pepper or some herbs or seasoning, have at it!  :D)
Mason Jar (read below for info on lids and fermenting top)

Fermenting Vessel:  For this we are using a Mason Jar, but whatever you personally ferment in is fine, again you will need to adjust the salt to suit you.  I do have a fermenting Crock but this time I used a mason jar a Recap lid, stopper and an S-Airlock (brew stores have these or online).  Here is the pic so you see.  This is an easy way to turn any Mason jar into a fermenting jar.

Picture of Weedy Ferment that I did! :D

Directions:

Harvest your weeds and rinse them off.  Chop them up (remember Sandor Katz says Chopper’s Choice) and add them to your Mason jar.  I chopped mine up pretty fine.  Add your salt and cover them with filtered water (this is called salt brine).  I add weights to keep the material in the salt bring. I use glass-fermenting weights. If you have a crock it has weights usually.  Ferment for 3 days or more. (Taste as you go). I typically do at least 7 days. Scrape off the top if you notice any oxidation or mold in the material and discard that please.  If this is your first time fermenting, I suggest getting Sandor’s book or video (oh heck get both) or if you are local and interested in a fermenting class gather a few friends and contact me!

I DO refrigerate my ferments after they are done. If you don’t like weeds maybe you don’t do this one to start with, maybe start with beets or kraut.  I mostly shared this because I know very few folks who do it and I wanted to throw it out there as an option. :D

Some of my previous ferments include (but are not limited to)
Lemon Balm Mead
Pomegranate Mead
Nettle Ferment
Sweet Potato
Broccoli Salad
Beets (with Ginger)
Kraut
Rooty Ferment (a bunch of different root veggies)
AND MORE!!!

Wanna learn more? You can also Google Fermented, Cultured or Live Food but here are a few things I found to get you started.

Dream Tea

Dream Tea (or Dream Pillow)

Supplies

Dried Herbs: Hops, Mugwort, Rose (tops) and Lavender (flowers)
These items can be purchased from Mountain Rose Herbs.

Directions:

Mix up (dried herbs)
2 Parts Hops
1/8 Part Mugwort
½ part Rose Petals
½ part Lavender Tops

Mix well!!! Then place in a brown tea bag or a jar OUT of sunlight for storage.  Steep ½ teaspoon for a few minutes before bedtime (Note I do tend to use more, but please start small and don’t overdo it).  More is not always better!  And if you are sensitive to any of these herbs please use common sense and just don’t use them.  This can be great tea to help you relax and dream. It may help you remember dreams.

If you prefer NOT to use the tea, use the same proportion and make your own dream pillow. I  have one of these and I love it!  :D  Place it near your head at nighttime.

Disclaimer:  Please use any and all herbs at your own risk, and if you ever have that feeling that something ‘is not right for you’ go with it.  Not all herbs are for everyone and some can be quite strong.  Enjoy!
